Like the Council of States, the National Council committee in charge also wants to increase the army budget more quickly. How the additional CHF 4 billion is to be compensated for is still open. The decision on this will not be made until August.

The National Council's Security Policy Committee (SIK-N) intends to follow the lead of the Council of States and is proposing to the Council that the payment framework for the armed forces be increased by CHF 4 billion to CHF 29.8 billion between 2025 and 2028, as Committee President Priska Seiler Graf (SP/ZH) told the media in Bern on Tuesday. This decision was taken by 15 votes to 8.

At the same time, the SIK-N decided by 17 votes to 2 with 5 abstentions to suspend the discussion on how this additional expenditure should be compensated. The Federal Council and the Department of Defense must present "broad-based proposals", said Seiler Graf. The committee would not discuss the matter further until these results were available in August.
