The mobile construction site bridge Astra-Bridge will be erected on the A1 highway near Recherswil SO next weekend. During the construction work to renew the surface under the temporary bridge, traffic will be able to continue on the upper two lanes at a speed of 60 km/h.
The installation of the bridge is scheduled for the nights of Friday to Saturday and Saturday to Sunday, as announced by the Federal Roads Office (Astra) on Thursday. The installation of a low-noise surface on the A1 between Recherswil and Luterbach in the direction of Zurich will then begin on Tuesday, April 9.
The work is scheduled to last until mid-August. The mobile bridge and therefore the construction site will be moved forward by around 100 meters each night in order to renovate the next section. During the bridge relocation, traffic in the direction of Zurich will be kept to one lane on the emergency lane. During the day, two lanes will be available thanks to the bridge.
Making alternative traffic unattractive
Traffic is being closely monitored to avoid traffic diversions, as Astra writes. Alternating text displays are used to inform motorists about travel times on the highway and other roads. In order to make avoiding traffic unattractive, the exit can be regulated if necessary, it said.
When the Astra Bridge was first used in spring 2022, there were often traffic jams. The bridge has been upgraded so that trucks and trailer combinations can also cross at 60 km/h without any problems. As a result, traffic flow is now expected to improve, writes Astra.
The A1 between Recherswil SO and Luterbach SO is one of the busiest Swiss highways with up to 82,000 vehicles a day.
