At least eight years delay for experimental reactor Iter

The international experimental reactor for nuclear fusion called Iter will be delayed by at least eight years. Its bill will increase by "billions of euros", as Iter Director General Pietro Barabaschi announced on Wednesday. The reactor is set to revolutionize energy production.
Iter (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) is a major international project that is currently building a test reactor in France. The Swiss Plasma Center of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) is involved.
The date originally planned for 2025 for the first production of plasma, which is essential for fusion, will be postponed to at least 2033. Delays and repairs to defective parts will lead to additional costs, which are currently estimated at "five billion" euros, Barabaschi said at a press conference at which the new schedule for the project based in south-east France was presented.
