The mentally disturbed man who attacked passers-by and injured six people in Zofingen AG on 15 May has been transferred from a closed institution to a prison. This was announced by the public prosecutor's office in Aargau on request.

"From a medical point of view, he is now in a stable condition and was therefore recently transferred to a regular detention regime," said Adrian Schuler, spokesman for the Aargau public prosecutor's office, when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency. The public prosecutor's office did not provide any further details on the time or place.

Following his actions in Zofingen AG, which triggered a large-scale police operation, the 43-year-old Spaniard was initially treated for his injuries in a hospital and guarded by police officers, according to the public prosecutor's office. He was then transferred to a suitable institution due to his psychologically abnormal behavior.

Provisionally in custody until November

According to a decision by the Aargau compulsory measures court, the man will remain in custody until November, said Schuler. The criminal investigation into multiple attempted murders is still ongoing. According to earlier reports, two of the six victims in Zofingen AG were seriously injured, although not life-threatening.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, May 15, the man began to randomly attack passers-by with various objects at Zofingen railroad station. He then moved away from the town center to a residential area, where he barricaded himself in a detached house after further attacks and was later arrested by special police forces.
