The man who madly killed his mother in the Maggia Valley in spring 2022 was found guilty of murder at the Lugano Criminal Court on Thursday. The court followed the prosecution's demand and ordered inpatient treatment in a closed institution due to a serious mental disorder.
The accused needs therapy. A therapy that he could not receive in prison, the presiding judge explained to the Lugano Criminal Court on Thursday.
He rated the risk of recidivism as high, as the young man had killed his mother while delusional. It was conceivable that the accused also considered other people to be threatening beings and attacked them. The public must therefore be protected from the man.
The accused had not wanted to kill his mother as such, but the one he saw as "the queen of witches" in his psychotic disorder, the judge continued. For this reason, the man had to receive psychiatric treatment in the first instance. The accused's brother was awarded 50,000 francs in compensation by the court.
