Basel gears up for the second round in the race to host the ESC

The Basel government is delighted with the SRG's decision to keep the city in the running to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. The choice shows that Basel offers good conditions for hosting major international events, the government announced on Friday.

The second phase of the application will focus on further refining the implementation concept. Its motto is "Crossing Borders", as announced at the beginning of July. It envisages the St. Jakobshalle as the main event venue, the neighboring St. Jakob-Arena ice rink as the press center and the St. Jakob-Park as the arena for a large public viewing event.

If Basel is awarded the contract at the end of August, the Government Council will immediately submit a financing proposal to the Grand Council. According to the communiqué, expenditure on infrastructure, security, supporting events, transportation and destination marketing is expected to be in the region of CHF 30 to 35 million.
