At the burning of the Zurich Böögg in Heiden AR on June 22, the guild members will not ride around the snowman on horses - but on hobbyhorses. The reason for this is the terrain. Historic toy horses will be used.

The members of the Schneidern guild will saddle up a hobbyhorse for the traditional parade, as the Ausserrhoden cantonal chancellery announced on Wednesday.

It is already clear which toy horses will be used. The ones that will be brought out of storage are the ones that served as horse substitutes for the Sechseläuten in 1965. At that time, the use of real horses was not possible due to the rampant horse flu.

Only run around the Böögg three times

However, the guild members do not have to go jogging now. They will only run around the Böögg three times with their hobby horses, as the Sechseläuten told Keystone-SDA when asked. This is also how it is done with the real horses.

In other respects too, the "Ersatz-Sechseläuten" ceremony is based on the one in Zurich: At 6 p.m. on the sixth chime of the bell, the wood pile with the Böögg is lit. In Zurich, the Böögg looks towards St. Peter's Church, while in Heiden it faces the city on the Limmat.

Around 1500 members of the Zurich guilds and around 5000 spectators are expected to attend. At the "real" Sechseläuten on April 15, the Böögg could not even be lit due to wind. The organizers feared that strong gusts of wind could have led to dangerous flying sparks.
