The Golden Treble Clef, the highest award in Swiss folk music, goes this year to euphonium player, conductor and composer Very Rickenbacher. The 66-year-old Rickenbacher will receive the award next Saturday in Küssnacht am Rigi SZ.
As the Goldener Violinschlüssel association announced on Tuesday, Rickenbacher, who was born in Immensee SZ, has had a strong influence on the brass band scene in recent decades. Since 2003, he has led the Rigispatzen brass band, in which he played as a teenager. He has conducted various bands, led a music school and a theater association and founded a Guggenmusik.
Very Rickenbacher comes from a musical family. According to the press release, folk music was very important to the Rickenbachers. He attended a young wind player course, attended the teacher training seminar and completed the trumpet recruit school.
Rickenbacher also composes brass music. According to the Golden Treble Clef Association, he was very adept at writing tailor-made compositions for the Rigispatzen. His polka "Ein halbes Jahrhundert" is "a true masterpiece" and could be described as a worldwide hit.
