The trial of 28-year-old Brian continued at the Dielsdorf District Court on Tuesday. His lawyer criticized the years of solitary confinement as a massive violation of international law. A maximum of 15 days of isolation is allowed.
Brian sat in solitary confinement from August 2018 until January 2022. "This is clearly a human rights violation," his lawyer said. The "stimulus deprivation" and the fatal lack of prospects had manifested themselves in Brian in abusive behavior and damage to property.
The cause of his behavior, he says, was the rigid detention regime of the Zurich prison system. "If Brian farted in the wrong tone of voice, the Diamond task force was at the door."
In January 2022, Brian was transferred to Zurich Prison, since then he has had contact with fellow inmates and a daily structure. His behavior improved significantly. The prosecution is demanding a prison sentence of 9 years and 7 months for 30 assaults in Pöschwies prison. Brian is also excused from the trial on Tuesday.
