The canton of Jura welcomes the Bernese Jura town of Moutier. As expected, voters clearly approved the treaty governing the transfer of the canton of Bern to the Jura on Sunday. The canton of Bern has yet to vote in favor.
The planned change of canton from Moutier is also being voted on there today. The canton of Bern is significantly larger, which is why counting the votes is likely to take a little longer.
On Sunday, Jura voters approved the agreement on the change of canton from Moutier by 19,470 votes in favor (72.9%) to 7,253 against (27.1%). The turnout was 50.3 percent.
The change of canton from Moutier is also accompanied by a constitutional amendment in the Jura. An article that was previously intended to pave the way for the unification of the Bernese Jura and the canton of Jura will be deleted. With the change of Moutier, the decades-old Jura issue is to be considered settled.
