The canton of Vaud is banning all outdoor events on Saturday afternoon and evening due to the risk of severe weather. It also strongly advises against boat trips on Upper Lake Geneva.

In a statement issued on Saturday afternoon, the Vaud cantonal police explained that meteorologists were talking about an exceptional weather situation on Saturday afternoon. There could be strong winds with speeds of over 100 kilometers per hour, as well as lightning, hail and heavy rain.

According to the communiqué, the decision was made after a meeting of the cantonal command staff, which was also attended by meteorologists. The events are banned until 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The canton of Vaud also advises people to avoid driving if possible and not to go into forests or parks. On Saturday morning, the city of Nyon VD had already announced that it was canceling a European Football Championship public viewing event on Saturday evening.
