The cantonal governments welcome the draft negotiating mandate with the EU. An important step has been taken with the opening of the consultation.
The cantons expect the EU to show a sign of concession in the areas of research, education and innovation, according to a statement issued by the Conference of Cantonal Governments (KdK) on Friday. Switzerland should be readmitted to the calls for proposals of the European Research Council as well as to Horizon Europe.
It is now time for negotiations to clarify the last outstanding issues and ensure the continuation of a solid and sustainable relationship with the EU. With the package approach pursued by the Federal Council, it should be possible to find solutions with majority support, the KdK continued.
At an extraordinary plenary meeting on February 2, 2024, the KdK will adopt a joint statement on the draft.
