Car catches fire in Gotthard road tunnel

A car caught fire in the Gotthard road tunnel at around 8.30 a.m. on Friday morning. The 47-year-old driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The tunnel was subsequently closed on both sides. The emergency services were able to extinguish the fire quickly.
According to the cantonal police of Uri, it is not yet possible to quantify the damage caused. The exact cause of the fire is the subject of a police investigation. The driver was traveling north.
The emergency services of the Uri Cantonal Hospital, the Gotthard Damage Prevention Service, the Office for National Roads Operations, a local towing company and the Uri Cantonal Police were deployed.
