At the beginning of the Easter holidays, there has been a traffic jam of one kilometer in front of the Gotthard north portal on Thursday morning. The time lost was ten minutes. There was also a traffic jam at the border crossing to Italy in Chiasso TI.

The reason for the traffic jam on the A2 highway between Wassen UR and Göschenen UR was traffic congestion, according to the Touring Club of Switzerland (TCS). The main reason for the congestion is travelers heading south every year during the Easter holidays.

They will not be rewarded for their efforts with warm and sunny weather, on the contrary: according to SRF Meteo, heavy rain will begin on Good Friday and continue until Easter Monday, except for a few short interruptions. There is a threat of flooding, debris flows and landslides. With highs of around 13 degrees, it is also rather cool for the end of March.

On Wednesday afternoon, vehicles were already jammed at the Gotthard north portal over a length of nine kilometers. South of the Gotthard, snow-covered roads caused a traffic jam almost four kilometers long.
