Cassis: “Solid and balanced basis for negotiations”

According to Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, Switzerland is well positioned for the negotiations with the EU. "The result of the exploratory talks forms a solid and balanced basis for starting negotiations," Cassis told the media on Friday.
For the draft negotiating mandate adopted on Friday, possible solutions for the various areas of the package were found in eleven rounds of exploratory talks, said Cassis.
The Foreign Minister also emphasized the advantages of the package approach to be used in the negotiations with the EU. This is based on a package of cooperation and market access agreements. The package approach is broader than the negotiations on a framework agreement, which were broken off in May 2021, said Cassis. It offers more flexibility and room for maneuver to safeguard Switzerland's interests during the negotiations.
