Catholics and Reformed Christians prayed for peace on Saturday afternoon in Lucerne on the occasion of the Ukraine summit on the Bürgenstock NW. In St. Peter's Chapel, they asked God to "give peace a chance" at the conference.

The prayer was read by Bishop Felix Gmür of Basel, representing the Swiss Bishops' Conference, and by Pastor Martin Hirzel of the Swiss Protestant Church. Around 100 people attended the prayer. The small church in the old town was therefore full.

In the prayer, the believers asked God to support the peace conference on the Bürgenstock. "Guide their deliberations with your wisdom. Let them find what serves everyone, so that peace has a chance."

"Violence does not lead to just peace," the prayer said. God was asked to send the spirit of love to drive out hatred, because reconciliation and just peace should become possible.

The prayer was introduced by the bells of St. Peter's Chapel and music. The violonists Ash Ayben Özdemir and Radostina Stoyanova played a duo by Max Reger. Those present gave voice to the plea for peace by singing a canon of peace together.
