The center says no to the initiative for a 13th AHV pension and to the pension initiative of the Young Liberals. The delegates adopted the slogans on Saturday in Thun. Both proposals will be put to the people on March 3.
The center voted 161 to 17 against the initiative "For a better life in old age" of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB). It calls for a 13th monthly pension for AHV recipients.
Before discussing an expansion of the AHV, existing disadvantages must be eliminated, according to the delegates' meeting of the center. The initiative launched by the Center Party, which calls for fair pensions for married couples, is particularly suitable for this.
The delegates rejected the Young Liberals' pension initiative by 134 votes to 42. It calls for the retirement age to be linked to average life expectancy.
"We need new sources of funding instead of another increase in the retirement age - and above all better conditions for senior citizens to remain in the labor market," said Philipp Matthias Bregy, a member of the National Council from the canton of Valais.
Yes to the BVG reform
The Center delegates also adopted the slogan for a bill that is expected to be put to the people in June. They voted in favor of the occupational pension reform by 159 votes to 3.
The SP, Greens, trade unions and employee associations had launched a referendum. They are opposed to lower pensions. However, the vast majority of centrist delegates agreed with Erich Ettlin, a member of the Council of States from Obwalden: "It is a good reform, a reform of what is possible."
