Following riots at the football match between Servette and FC Zurich on Saturday evening in Geneva, Geneva Servette Football Club has filed charges against persons unknown. The reason is clashes between FC Zurich supporters, the security service and the police.

Servette justified the complaint with damage to property in the southern part of the stadium. The Geneva football club wrote in a communiqué on Sunday that there had been altercations when the visiting fans were admitted to their sector. This made it necessary for the police to intervene for a longer period of time.

A spokeswoman for the Geneva police told the Keystone-SDA news agency that Zurich supporters had quarrelled with security staff during searches. Other FCZ supporters who had already been in the stadium had also tried to get out again, damaging barriers in the process.

The police then reportedly used tear gas and pepper spray. The situation calmed down after half an hour.

There were also skirmishes after the game, which Geneva lost 1:0. The second of two fan trains left late, according to the police spokeswoman. This was because some FCZ supporters got off the train again and threw objects at the security staff.
