Around 300 comrades want to found the Revolutionary Communist Party (RPK) in Biel next weekend. The Marxist movement "Der Funke" is calling for the "biggest communist recruitment campaign in over a hundred years".

According to a press release on Wednesday, the founding of the party will be officially announced on Thursday at the "Der Funke" office in Bern city center. The campaign to establish the new party will then be launched on Saturday at the Volkshaus in Biel/Bienne.

The Communists have set themselves ambitious goals: Within three months, the party should have 500 members, generate 70,000 francs in donations and sell 5,000 copies of the newspaper "der Kommunist".

Capitalism is in an insurmountable, historical impasse, according to the statement. The RKP will fight for nothing less than "the communist world revolution by the working class". Humanity and all human potential should be "truly liberated".

According to the party founders, 35% of the Swiss population are already in favor of abolishing capitalism. However, there is no revolutionary party that would allow them to overcome their isolation and passivity.

The last national Communist Party was banned in 1940. Following the failure of merger negotiations with the SP, the Party of Labor (PdA) was founded in 1944 as a new collective movement of communists. The PDA achieved a voter share of 0.72 percent in the 2023 National Council elections. Denis de la Reusille from Neuchâtel was the last PdA National Councillor to leave the national parliament.
