The Federal Council wants to join forces in the fight against poverty. Together with the cantons, municipalities and civil society players, it wants to further develop and strengthen poverty policy by means of a national strategy. The latter is to be developed by mid-2027.

The anti-poverty platform created in 2014 is to be continued until at least 2030, it was reported on Friday. Cantons, municipalities and civil society organizations have spoken out strongly in favour of continuing the platform, according to the Federal Council's statement.

The Platform against Poverty serves to improve cooperation between those involved in preventing and combating poverty, to intensify specialist discussions and to expand the knowledge of those involved. The Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) is also to develop a concept to transform the platform into a permanent structure.

According to the communication, people experiencing poverty are to be involved in the planning and implementation of the strategy. To this end, an independent participatory body called the "Council for Poverty Issues" is to be created. According to the Federal Council, this is in line with the concerns of those affected.
