Construction worker dies in work accident in Münster VS

A construction worker was hit by a train while working on the railroad line in Münster VS on Tuesday. The 49-year-old Italian died at the scene of the accident.
The accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m., according to the Valais cantonal police. The worker was preparing for upcoming track renewal work on the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway in Münster. For reasons as yet unexplained, he was hit by an approaching train traveling in the direction of Obergoms.
Despite initial medical treatment, the casualty died at the scene. In addition to a first aider called out by the Valais cantonal rescue organization, an Air Zermatt helicopter, an ambulance and the Goms fire department were also deployed. The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (Sust) has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
