The District Court of Bülach ZH has rejected the request for the subsequent detention of a 25-year-old woman. Instead, she will continue to receive inpatient therapy.

The 25-year-old, who was brought to court in handcuffs and shackles, will be given another chance. She was visibly relieved after the decision. "I want to keep working on myself," she said.

In deciding to impose a further inpatient measure instead of the requested detention, the Bülach District Court followed the request of the juvenile prosecutor and the woman's lawyer.

Both claimed that the person concerned had made great progress since the application was submitted in October last year. At the end of October 2023, she was transferred to the Königsfelden Clinic in Windisch AG.

Continued high risk of relapse

"The supplementary report documents the changes since the transfer to Windisch," said the judge in justification of the ruling. The expert opinion still warned of a high risk of recidivism. Under the given circumstances, however, the requirements for subsequent custody were not met.

The judgment is not yet legally binding. However, as the juvenile prosecutor's office has also applied to refuse custody, it is unlikely that the case will be referred to the Zurich High Court.
