Defective Intermediate Ceiling in Gotthard Road Tunnel Removed

The Swiss Federal Roads Office (Astra) has announced that the necessary repairs to the defective ceiling in the Gotthard Road Tunnel have been completed and the tunnel is expected to be reopened to traffic this week. The repairs involved the removal of the defective ceiling and the installation of a steel structure with the same cross-sectional area. This structure will ensure the functionality of the exhaust duct in the event of a fire, allowing smoke to be extracted from the roadway.
