Defendants deny involvement in crime in district court

On Monday morning, two men were questioned at the district court in Frauenfeld TG who allegedly killed a 27-year-old man around 16 years ago. One of the accused assured the court that he had nothing to do with the case. The other refused to make any statement.
He met the later victim as a guest in his restaurant, said the now 63-year-old Swiss man, who worked as a landlord before his arrest in August 2022. The 27-year-old Egyptian's wife did the bookkeeping for him. She was also the landlord's maid of honor and he helped her move house.
According to the indictment, the Egyptian was allegedly eliminated on their behalf. Undercover investigators were deployed to investigate the crime. The accused is said to have confessed the crime to one of them. In doing so, he is said to have given details that assumed knowledge of the crime.
Strange feeling with new acquaintances
During questioning, the accused denied this. He had never talked to them about this matter. Moreover, he had immediately noticed that there was something unusual about the two new acquaintances, who later turned out to be undercover officers.
In response to the court's questions, the defendant repeatedly claimed that he could not remember. They had talked about "normal things", the circumstances had been "normal".
The second defendant, a 59-year-old Italian, exercised his right to refuse to testify without exception. The pleas will follow next. The trial is scheduled to last several days. The verdict is expected to be delivered next Monday.
Body dumped in lake
According to the indictment, the accused killed the Egyptian man, who had been living in the canton of Schaffhausen, with several shots on behalf of his now deceased wife. They then allegedly weighed down the body with a concrete element and dumped it in Lake Barchet near Oberneunforn TG.
