The defense lawyer of a former jewelry store employee demanded an acquittal at the Lucerne Criminal Court on Wednesday. The public prosecutor accused the 61-year-old Swiss national of providing information so that the Gübelin jewelry store on Schwanenplatz could be robbed in 2019.
How, when and where his client is said to have passed on the insider information for the robbery is not stated in the indictment, said the defense lawyer. Despite extensive investigations, nothing had been brought to light that confirmed a connection to the robbery. His client had also not been seen in the brothel where co-accused met.
The evidence was not meagre, but non-existent, said the defense lawyer. He argued that other former or former employees of the jeweler could also have passed on information. Apparently, however, a scapegoat had to be found. His client had become involved in the proceedings through no fault of his own.
The public prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of ten years for the accused. They assume that six men worked together to plan and carry out the 2019 robbery. Jewelry and watches worth 20 million francs were taken.
