The discounter Denner increased its sales last year to a new record of 3.9 billion Swiss francs. This is 4.0 percent more than in the previous year.
The increase was due to the expansion of the store network, the expansion of fresh products and the effects of inflation, the Migros subsidiary announced in a press release on Thursday afternoon. The higher inflation was reflected in the shopping behavior of the population. Even more customers have found their way to Switzerland's largest discounter. Customer numbers rose by 5.2 percent in 2023.
Both Denner stores and Denner partner stores contributed to the 4.0 percent increase in sales with +4.1 percent and +3.7 percent respectively. Last year, the store network grew by 5 to 864 locations, wrote the discounter.
Record highs since the pandemic
In its communiqué two weeks ago, the parent company Migros put Denner sales at 3.8 billion Swiss francs. This figure does not include ancillary revenues, which Denner adds to sales in its figures, explained Denner spokesperson Thomas Kaderli in response to an inquiry from the news agency AWP.
The discounter's sales have climbed to these heights since the pandemic. In the last pre-corona year, Denner still only achieved sales of 3.3 billion Swiss francs.
4 billion mark in sight
If things continue like this, Denner wants to break the sales barrier of 4 billion francs. This goal is realistic, said Kaderli.
With this growth, Denner has also created 159 new jobs. At the end of the year, the discounter had 6,187 employees.
