Environment Minister Rösti reaffirms Swiss climate target in Baku

Switzerland wants to meet the 1.5-degree climate target. This was confirmed by Environment Minister Albert Rösti during an appearance at the ongoing UN Climate Change Conference in Baku on Thursday.
Switzerland intends to submit the new national climate action plan for the period 2030 to 2035 on February 10, 2025, he is quoted as saying in a news report by Swiss Radio SRF. Federal Councillor Rösti went on to say: "We, Switzerland, are also ready to make our contribution. Our new national climate action plan will be in line with the 1.5 degree target."
Switzerland is also already severely affected by climate change, Rösti continued on SRF radio. She expects the major economies to take decisive steps in the fight against climate change. And Switzerland itself is also prepared to take responsibility.
The international community agreed to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius in the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. Switzerland ratified the agreement on October 6, 2017 and is bound by it. In the national climate action plan for the period from 2025 to 2030, Switzerland has committed to reducing CO2 emissions by 50 percent compared to 1990.
