The flood situation in the canton of Valais continued to worsen until late Friday afternoon. Due to the risk of flooding, the authorities carried out selective evacuations.
In view of the tense situation, the authorities have raised the warning level for the entire canton to the alert level for the Rhone and its tributaries. This means in particular that the monitoring system must be strengthened. In addition, the task forces must actively prepare to take measures, as announced by the Valais Natural Hazards Office.
The State Council decided to declare a special situation for the canton of Valais. It also placed the Cantonal Command Organ (KFO) under the authority of Security Director Frédéric Favre. The special situation makes it possible to deploy additional resources.
