Every Fifth Teenager Wishes for a Strong Leader

The DSJ Jugend- und Politmonitor survey of 1000 15-25 year olds in Switzerland found that 20% of respondents supported a single strong leader for the country, while more than a quarter supported the idea of few people in power and the people having no say. 31% felt that it didn't matter if one lived in a democracy as long as people were doing well. 63% saw democracy as the best way to participate in society, with 59% seeing it as a prerequisite for a fair and just life, and 53% seeing it as essential for a good life. 13% felt that it didn't matter if they lived in a democracy or not. The most important factors for choosing a party were their position on issues (26%), trustworthiness (19%) and their party programme (12%). The SVP was seen as having the highest economic competence on economic issues, while SVP and SP were seen as having similar positions on migration and asylum issues, with a slight advantage to the SVP. The SVP was seen as having the highest security, while the Greens and Green Liberals were seen as having the best environmental policies. No party was seen as having an advantage in energy policy.
