Several hundred farmers gathered at three demonstrations in the canton of Zurich on Friday evening. Like their colleagues in French-speaking Switzerland, they were demanding higher prices for their products. Their demands were only partially met when it came to the milk price.

Numerous farming families responded to the Zurich Farmers' Association's (ZBV) call to march in Affoltern am Albis, Bülach and Hinwil on Friday. They marched with bells ringing and torches to their respective destinations, where a memorial fire was lit. According to the ZBV, a total of around 1000 people announced their participation.

According to a reporter from Keystone-SDA, the atmosphere among the estimated 200 participants in Affoltern am Albis was peaceful.

The ZBV's most important demand was an increase in the target price for milk of 4 centimes per liter. The milk industry association announced an increase of 3 centimes per liter on Friday. For the ZBV, this is "a late step in the right direction". However, it cannot be completely satisfied with this. That is why the previously announced marches have been held.

Farmers are also continuing to demand price increases for other agricultural products. The price increases are intended to offset the recent sharp rise in farmers' production costs.

However, it is important to the farmers that consumers are not asked to pay for the higher prices. Instead, the price increases should be "at the expense of the record results of the major distributors".

With the demonstrations on Friday evening, the farmers' protests that began in France, Germany and other European countries have also reached Switzerland's largest canton. Similar demonstrations had already taken place in French-speaking Switzerland and other German-speaking cantons in the preceding days.
