FC Luzern (FCL) is making a loss of CHF 3.1 million and needs to be restructured. Shareholders had to inject CHF 1.6 million to restore equity to a plus of CHF 1.1 million.
FCL held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday evening at the Lucerne Exhibition Center in front of 290 shareholders and 1,200 fans. The business figures were disappointing: With turnover down from CHF 25.5 million to CHF 22.8 million compared to the same period last year, the result was a loss of CHF 3.1 million.
The Super League club explained the loss with investments, including in young talent and higher expenditure. In addition, the transfer surplus of CHF 1.7 million was low compared to other years.
If FCL captain Ardon Jashari had moved to FC Basel, the result would have been different. However, keeping the best players in their own ranks was a conscious decision by the Board of Directors, it was said at the AGM.
In addition to the restructuring, the concession of two creditors was also necessary in order to meet the financial requirements. Bernhard Alpstaeg, who was involved in a legal dispute with the Board of Directors, did not participate in the restructuring.
Former FCL boss Alpstaeg was not a topic at the AGM. The fans, on the other hand, were given more say. The "FCL-Basis" association has held ten percent of the shares in FC Luzern-Innerschweiz AG since the end of October and can therefore claim a seat on the Board of Directors. This seat is held by 46-year-old Daniel Britschgi.
Any fan can become a member of the "FCL-Basis" association for the price of one share. The new association is guaranteed various rights via a shareholders' agreement, a pre-emptive right to purchase shares and some veto rights, for example regarding changes to the name, logo or stadium.
