The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) does not rule out further deterioration in the security situation in the Middle East. According to the FDFA, developments in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory are uncertain.
Anyone wishing to leave the country should use the available commercial means of transportation. Flight connections could be reduced quickly if the situation deteriorates, the FDFA wrote on its website on Thursday.
The Swiss embassy in Tel Aviv will continue to provide its usual services, the statement continued. However, if the situation deteriorates, the embassy will only have limited possibilities to provide assistance in emergencies.
No tourist trips
Tourist and other non-urgent travel to Israel is still not recommended, the FDFA wrote. There is an increased risk in individual parts of the country such as the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and the border areas with Lebanon and Egypt. In general, there is a risk of violence throughout the country, such as attacks and individual attacks with vehicles or weapons.
The Gaza war was triggered by a terrorist attack on Israel by the Palestinian Hamas on October 7. In response to the attack and the kidnapping of hostages, Israel is attacking targets in the Gaza Strip from land, sea and air. According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, more than 33,000 people have been killed and more than 75,000 others injured.
