At its delegates' meeting in Zug, the FDP Switzerland voted against the SP's premium relief initiative and the centrist cost brake initiative. On the other hand, it said yes to the highway expansion and to the energy decree.
The premium relief initiative provides for a cap on health insurance premiums. These should no longer account for more than ten percent of disposable income. According to the SP, people on low and middle incomes should benefit. The FDP delegates unanimously rejected the initiative.
The cost brake initiative was also clearly rejected (1 yes, 333 no). The centrist initiative calls for the Federal Assembly and cantons to intervene if healthcare costs rise too sharply compared to wage trends. The party intends to stop premium growth in this way.
The FDP agreed to the expansion of highways at critical points (305 yes, 7 no). The bill aims to expand the highways at a cost of CHF 5.3 billion. Among other things, the A1 between Bern-Wankdorf and Schönbühl BE is to be widened from the current six to eight lanes and between Schönbühl and Kirchberg BE to six lanes. A referendum was held against the bill.
The delegates also voted in favor of the energy package decree (267 yes, 29 no). The bill provides for measures to ensure security of supply and aims to promote the faster expansion of renewable energies in order to achieve climate targets. A referendum was also held against the initiative.
