The FDP is entering the Bernese municipal elections with Florence Pärli. The 33-year-old city councillor prevailed against co-president Chantal Perriard at the nomination meeting on Monday evening.

Pärli, a member of the Young Liberals, received 40 of the 72 votes. She is head of the FDP/JF parliamentary group in the city council. Professionally, the lawyer works for the tax administration of the canton of Solothurn.

Pärli presented herself to party members as a combative financial politician. The red-green majority had put the city in a tricky position. The finances could not be restructured on the fly, she said. As a municipal councillor, she would like to take over the finance directorate.

With Pärli, the FDP is aiming to return to Bern's city government. The last independent municipal councillor was Alexandre Schmidt, who missed out on re-election in 2016.

This time, the FDP is trying its luck on a joint list with the GLP, SVP, Mitte and EVP. Each party is to nominate one person. However, participation in the "Together for Bern" list is controversial, at least among the GLP, and a decision is expected next week.

Joint list undisputed

The FDP's joint list was undisputed on Monday. The members voted unanimously in favor without discussion.

The red-green camp currently holds four of the five municipal council seats. The fifth belongs to Reto Nause (center), who is not running again in the fall. The aim of the civic list is to win two of the five seats.
