The federal government wants to oblige a larger number of Swiss companies to report on their sustainability - in line with the corresponding regulations in the EU. This was decided by the Federal Council on Wednesday.

According to the report, companies in Switzerland with 250 employees, a balance sheet total of at least CHF 25 million and a turnover of CHF 50 million or more will also be obliged to report on their risks.

Companies would be held accountable in the areas of the environment, human rights, corruption and corresponding countermeasures on the part of the respective company. According to the Federal Council, this would affect around 3,500 companies. Around 300 companies are affected by the previous reporting regulations.

The new rules on sustainable corporate governance are associated with costs for companies, the statement continued. The federal government is therefore now examining the provision of aids to implement the new requirements.
