The government aid for four ailing Swiss steel and aluminum plants continues to take shape: The Swiss parliament has finalized the bill, which is intended to give the four companies discounts on electricity purchases.
On Tuesday, the National Council accepted amendments to the bill that the Council of States had made on Monday. It concerns the conditions under which companies should be able to benefit from price reductions in the so-called grid usage fees.
Following this agreement, the amendment to the Electricity Supply Act will return to the Council of States, according to National Council President Maja Riniker. This is for a vote on the urgency clause. The law will then have to survive the final vote at the end of this week.
The National Council tacitly approved the amendment to the Electricity Supply Act, i.e. without any actual discussion or vote. This was because the committee requested approval of the Council of States bill and no other proposal was submitted.
