Federal economists expect moderate increase in 2025

The federal government's economists expect a moderate upturn in 2025. Things are not expected to pick up more strongly until 2026.
For 2024, the federal government's group of experts is now only forecasting growth in real gross domestic product (GDP, adjusted for sporting events) of 0.9%, as announced by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) on Thursday. Previously, the experts had assumed growth of 1.2 percent.
The federal economists have also become somewhat more cautious for 2025. They now expect growth of 1.5 percent. In September, they were still forecasting growth of 1.6%. For the first time, there is also a forecast for GDP growth in 2026, when growth of 1.7% is expected.
These figures do not include major sporting events such as the European Football Championship and the Olympic Games. Every two years, these bring a shower of money into the country because the headquarters of FIFA, Uefa and the International Olympic Committee are in Switzerland. However, this significantly distorts the actual economic development.
If the major sporting events are taken into account, Seco also expects lower GDP growth of 1.3% this year (previously 1.6%) and 1.1% next year (previously: 1.2%). Growth of 2.1% is forecast for 2026.
