Fast-charging stations for electric cars at the majority of highway service areas by 2030, the Department of Transport Uvek has announced. This will equip around one hundred rest areas throughout Switzerland and some of them will be further developed into charging hubs.
The Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) announced fast-charging stations "at all 100 rest areas along the national roads" on the online portal X on Monday. This is not literally all rest areas, as a spokesperson for the Federal Roads Office (Astra) told the Keystone-SDA news agency, but the majority of them.
In this way, the federal government wants to make its contribution to decarbonization, i.e. the move away from fossil fuels, as the statement continued. A call for project proposals was issued in February: five lots with eleven plots each. According to Astra, 55 applications were received by the deadline of May 12. These are currently being evaluated.
One of the goals set out in the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications' "Electric Mobility Roadmap" is to set up 20,000 publicly accessible charging stations in Switzerland by the end of 2025. The fast-charging stations on the highways would be part of this.
