Farmers in Switzerland will now receive financial support from the federal government for crop insurance. In future, it will cover up to 30 percent of the premiums. The Federal Council adopted the corresponding amendments to the ordinance on Wednesday.
With this decision, the national government is implementing resolutions passed by Parliament last year in connection with the 2022 agricultural policy. The new regulation comes into force on January 1.
The plan is for the federal government to pay a maximum of 30 percent of premiums directly to insurers, as announced by the Federal Council. The aim is to cover risks caused by drought and frost.
The measure is limited to eight years. According to the communiqué, this is start-up funding.
