Tenants should be entitled to an electric car charging station in future. The same should apply to people who own condominiums. The National Council has spoken out in favor of this.
On Thursday, it adopted a motion by Bernese GLP National Councillor Jürg Grossen with these demands. The federal government should also ensure access to charging infrastructure for electric cars in rental relationships and condominiums, according to Grossen's wording.
In his motion, the Bernese Oberland National Councillor writes that electric cars should be connected to the grid during idle times in order to optimize use and protect the distribution grids. This would make it easy to control charging processes with low power. Grid expansion costs and mobility and energy costs would be minimized for everyone.
Swiss electricity systems have had to be adapted time and again, Grossen told the Council. In the past, with the ribbon current, for example, it was necessary to switch on a million electric boilers at night to "get rid of" the ribbon current, said Grossen.
"It would be downright foolish" if Switzerland did not use the huge storage potential of electric cars to shape the future electricity system. The potential of all cars together exceeds that of all Swiss pumped storage plants.
The Federal Council requested rejection. Ensuring that tenants and condominium owners have access to charging infrastructure is tantamount to a legal entitlement to a charging station. The federal government rejects this.
