Federal President shocked after attack on Prime Minister Fico

The President of the Swiss Confederation was deeply shocked by the attack on Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico. Switzerland condemns all acts of violence, as President Viola Amherd wrote on the short message service X on Wednesday.
"In these troubled times, we must do our best to protect democracy," Amherd continued in English. Switzerland expresses its support for the Prime Minister, his family and the Slovakian people.
Fico had previously been shot and critically injured on Wednesday after a cabinet meeting in the Slovakian town of Handlova. He was taken to hospital. According to media reports, the attacker was arrested. The exact background was initially unclear.
