Federal prosecutor files charges against suspected counterfeiters

The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland has brought charges against two suspected counterfeiters. The two Swiss nationals wanted to print 50-dollar notes with a face value of five million dollars and put them into circulation. One of them is alleged to have produced drug hemp products without authorization.
The two defendants, a 72-year-old and a 49-year-old, will have to answer to the Federal Criminal Court, according to a statement issued by the Office of the Attorney General on Monday. They are alleged to have set up a highly professionally equipped workshop in the canton of Zurich for printing 50-dollar blossoms.
A police inspection of a production facility for legal CBD hemp in Urdorf ZH in November 2022 led to the trail of the counterfeiters. According to the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland, there was little suspicion that illegal drugs were also being produced at this facility. Almost 300 kilograms of drug hemp were seized during searches.
During the search, the two defendants were caught in the act of printing counterfeit money - semi-finished products worth around eight million US dollars were found. The two men are said to have planned to put counterfeit 50-dollar notes with a face value of at least five million US dollars into circulation.
The suspects who were exposed were unable to complete the production of the counterfeit money. As the criminal proceedings that have been opened concern counterfeit money, the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland is responsible for the investigations.
