A fire destroyed a former farmhouse in Lüterswil SO on Monday morning. The residents were able to leave the building, which was used as a home, in time and were unharmed. The police are investigating the cause of the fire.
The fire was reported shortly after 7 a.m., according to the Solothurn cantonal police. When the fire department arrived, the building was already fully engulfed in flames. The rapid extinguishing efforts of several fire departments did not prevent the historic house from being destroyed.
The municipality of Lüterswil is helping the homeless residents to find alternative accommodation. The police have not yet provided any information on the extent of the damage or the cause of the fire.
Several patrols of the cantonal police, the rescue service, the Upper Bucheggberg regional fire department, the Grenchen fire department and the Büren an der Aare BE fire department were deployed. The Solothurn public prosecutor's office, the building insurance company, the Office for the Environment and a municipal representative were also on site.
