Freiburger Nachrichten and Radio Freiburg combine online channels

Freiburger Nachrichten and Radio Fribourg are launching a joint digital platform for German-speaking Fribourg. "Wir Freiburg" is the name of the product, which was created after almost a year of planning and published its first content on Monday.
Until now, "frapp.ch" and "freiburger-nachrichten.ch" have vied for the favor of the reading public. "German-speaking Fribourg is too small for two competing digital offerings", Markus Baumer, CEO of Radio Freiburg AG, was quoted as saying in a press release issued by the two media companies on Monday.
"By merging our existing online channels, we are strengthening each other and thus increasing our chances of commercial success," says Christoph Nussbaumer, CEO of Freiburger Nachrichten AG, according to the press release.
The app and the platform are financed by the sale of subscriptions, but "Wir Freiburg" also wants to establish itself as a regional platform for digital advertising.
The operation of the new digital service is managed by a joint committee with representatives from Radio Fribourg and Freiburger Nachrichten. On an editorial level, the teams work at a joint newsdesk located at the Mediaparc in Villars-sur-Glâne.
The print editions of "Freiburger Nachrichten" and the weekly titles "Der Murtenbieter" and "Anzeiger von Kerzers" continue to be produced at the newspaper's headquarters in Freiburg city center.
