Gender pay gap continues to narrow

The differences in median pay between men and women continue to decrease. In 2022, the gap was 9.5 percent. According to figures from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), this is two percentage points less than four years previously.
The gender-specific wage differences can be partly explained by the different levels of education or the level of responsibility in the workplace, according to a press release issued on Tuesday. In general, the wage differences reflect the different professional integration of women and men in the labor market.
The higher the hierarchical level of the job, the greater the gender pay gap, as the latest Swiss Salary Structure Survey shows. In 2022, women in jobs with a high level of responsibility earned CHF 9565 gross per month, while men at the same level received CHF 11,212, which corresponds to a difference of 14.7 percent. This figure has also decreased.
