Gerhard Andrey from Fribourg has decided not to run for the presidency of the Green Party. He would rather focus on his position as a member of the National Council and on his software company, as Andrey wrote on his website on Thursday.

Politically and entrepreneurially, he wants to "contribute to the much-needed transformation of the economy", as can be seen from the entry on Andrey's website. CH Media and "Le Temps" first reported on his withdrawal as potential president of the Greens.

Andrey ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Federal Council for the Greens on December 13. The intensive weeks surrounding the elections were a great privilege to be able to communicate party policy in his own way, he now summed up. As party president, this would still have been possible. However, his main political dossiers require a lot of energy and time.

The Fribourg native's decision comes just a few days after Bernese National Councillor and parliamentary group leader Aline Trede also announced that she would not stand as a candidate. Lisa Mazzone from Geneva, who was voted out of the Council of States in the last federal elections, has not yet commented on a possible candidacy.

The application deadline for the Green Party presidency is February 4. The delegates will elect the new president at their meeting on April 6.

Fivaz also renounces

The Neuchâtel National Councillor Fabien Fivaz has also decided not to stand as a candidate to succeed Balthasar Glättli in the Green Party presidency. Fivaz announced this to the Keystone-SDA news agency on Friday. He wrote that he had seriously considered running as a co-president.

After careful consideration, he has decided to concentrate on his parliamentary mandate. He did not want to give up his work in two committees and the vice presidency of the parliamentary group. He also has fatherly duties. The party presidency would be difficult to reconcile with these and his parliamentary mandate.
