Gotthard highway temporarily closed again for snow clearance

On Sunday afternoon, the cantonal police of Uri directed southbound vehicles off the Gotthard highway in Silenen UR. They were told to drive via the San Bernardino route.
The reason for this was the heavy snowfall and the fact that many foreign vehicles were driving on summer tires. Vehicles were repeatedly parked at right angles to the direction of travel, said Gusti Planzer, media spokesman for the cantonal police in Uri, on request.
Thanks to the traffic detour, the snow clearing vehicles made better progress. The Uri cantonal police had already stopped traffic for a while before midday to clear the snow. The detour decided in the afternoon was also a temporary measure, according to the media spokesperson.
