Lisa Mazzone, a Green who was not re-elected in the second round of the Council of States elections in Geneva, is retiring from politics. "I will continue to live my convictions elsewhere, in a different way," said the former member of the Council of States in an initial reaction.
Mazzone came third in the run-off behind the newly elected Mauro Poggia from the Mouvement citoyens genevois (MCG) and the former SP member of the Council of States Carlo Sommaruga. The 35-year-old politician thus suffered her first political defeat on Sunday. She did not hide her tears when she arrived in the Rue de l'Hôtel-de-Ville.
"We are represented by two 64-year-old men. This is a decision by Geneva that I can only regret," said Mazzone. She recalled that she would have chaired the Council of States if she had been re-elected: "This is a missed opportunity for Geneva."
