Political expert Michael Hermann does not believe the Green Party will secure a seat in the Federal Council. When asked if the party should give up hope of being represented in the Federal Council, he answered "Yes" in an interview with the "Tagesanzeiger" on Monday. Realistically, it must be said that even with a higher voter turnout, they had hardly any realistic chance. The cartel of the Federal Council parties had no interest in taking on a new player. The Green Party is leaning towards running in the Federal Council elections in December. "Yes, the tendency is that we will run," said party leader Aline Trede to the news agency Keystone-SDA on Sunday. Arithmetically, the Greens are still entitled to one seat. The magic formula is dead. However, the new faction will not make a decision on a possible Federal Council candidacy until Friday. The Green Party lost five seats in Parliament in the elections on Sunday, almost a fifth of their delegation. They now have 23 mandates and are the fifth strongest force. The big winner of the election was the SVP. They were able to expand their leadership by nine seats and reached 62 seats. ©Keystone/SDA
