The line-up for a possible second round of elections for the Bern Cantonal Council is thinning out: Jürg Grossen (GLP), Lorenz Hess (Mitte) and Marc Jost (EVP) have withdrawn their candidacies on Monday. Grossen, Hess, and Jost have decided to forgo participation in a second round of voting, which they announced on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). On Sunday, the three landed on ranks five, six and seven. Grossen received 72,860 votes, Lorenz Hess received 41,237 votes and Marc Jost received 28,377 votes. In comparison, the leading candidate Flavia Wasserfallen (SP) received 158,843 votes. In the Canton of Bern, the question arises whether there will be a second round of voting or if the third and fourth placed candidates, Sandra Hess and Bernhard Pulver, will also withdraw, thus making the leadership duo of Flavia Wasserfallen and Werner Salzmann the de facto winners. ©Keystone/SDA
